I have been an athlete my entire life and training professionally at Merritt Athletic Clubs for nearly a year. My experiences in baseball, soccer, lacrosse, football, cross-country and bodybuilding have provided years of practice with sport specific training. I have a passion for helping my clients determine and achieve their personal fitness goals and I enjoy creating programs specific to each client’s needs.

“In December 2009, at age 62, I was 25 pounds overweight with high blood pressure, cholesterol and body fat. That’s when
I decided 2010 was going to be my year to take responsibility for my own health and get into shape. In January, I joined
Merritt and struggled with knowing what to do, how to do it and maintaining motivation in the middle of a routine. So, in
February I signed up with Personal Trainer, Rob Stempel, and got the party started! Rob followed a logical progression of
developing stability, movements, balance and strength. I did cardio 3 – 4 times a week on my own.
In February 2011, at age 63, I maintained my weight in a healthy range and my blood pressure was exactly where it should
be, my cholesterol was in the safe range and my body fat less than 18%. I was still strength training 2 – 3 times each week
and running 2 – 5 times a week. I was also relying on Rob once a week to maintain an edge on my workouts.
Impressions: Was the past year easy? No. Did I face age related issues? Most definitely; but working with my doctor, Rob
and Eldersburg Merritt Athletic Club I have now taken responsibility for my own health and really feel awesome! It might be

recent rotator cuff tear. It is obviously very challenge to find a routine that I can do without further injuring myself. Rob has
gone above and beyond in my training sessions. He ensures that every exercise is done with correct precision so my body
alignment is correct and we stay away from injured areas; yet, I maintain a high level of exercise. I have
used trainers before, but I have not had the same level of expertise with them. Rob makes sure I
stretch which is something I routinely skipped previously. While working with a trainer is a love/hate
