She is available for nutritional guidance and can help clients develop a structured and organized nutrition outline to meet their fitness and weight loss goals. She will also go over the behavioral changes and modifications that are needed to reach these goals and maintain them long-term. Nutrition is an extremely important aspect to attaining any fitness goal, and it should be a high priority for health-conscious individuals. Sustainable Happiness

With Dr. Alexios Monopolis, Amphibious Personal Trainer & “Happiness Doctor”

Sustainable Happiness is a new program offered exclusively through the Merritt Athletic Club that combines Personal Training with one-on-one Wellness Coaching, Counseling or Psychotherapy sessions. The program is designed to help club members achieve and sustain a state of optimal fitness and psychological well-being.

Using a variety of coaching, counseling and psychotherapy techniques combined with the powerful new “science of happiness” (a.k.a. positive psychology), Dr. Alexios will help you attain your fitness goals while addressing a range of mental health issues many of us deal with on a regular basis, such as stress, anxiety and depression.

Each program is custom designed to meet the client’s individual needs and focuses on the following Eight Core Wellness Intelligences:

  • PHYSICAL: fitness, contemplative movement, and nutritional awareness
  • EMOTIONAL: authentic happiness and life satisfaction
  • COGNITIVE: creativity, flow, curiosity, and intellectual stimulation
  • SOCIAL: awareness of one’s role and importance in the community, empathy, and communication
  • BEHAVIORAL: lifestyle choices and their impacts
  • SPIRITUAL: purpose, meaning, and contemplative practice
  • ENVIRONMENTAL: nature immersion and ecological consciousness
  • LIFESTYLE: integration and application of core wellness intelligences

Who is Merritt’s “Happiness Doctor?”

Dr. Alexios has completed six degrees from Harvard University, Dartmouth College, Oxford University and the University of California and has worked extensively as a Personal Trainer and Psychotherapist. Most recently, he served as the Harvard University Center for Wellness Program Manager & Coach for “Harvard on the Move;” the university’s community-wide outdoor wellness initiative. As Harvard’s coach, he organized weekly outdoor fitness, wellness and recreation programs in addition to workshops and lectures highlighting cutting-edge research in the physiological, psychological and nutritional sciences. In terms of running, as a representative example, Alexios led multiple community runs each week with students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members and organized interactive workshops and training seminars on running form, injury prevention, spot psychology, barefoot running, and the cognitive and emotional benefits of running and exercise. In essence, this was Harvard’s adult version of “recess.” Read more about Alexios here.

How much does the program cost?

Each wellness package below includes the number of hour-long sessions, Personal Training cost per session, and Wellness Coaching/Counseling/Psychotherapy cost per session.

  • 2 one-hour sessions = $70/Personal Training session, $95/Psychotherapy session
  • 4 sessions = $65/Personal Training session, $90/Psychotherapy session
  • 8 sessions = $60/Personal Training session, $85/Psychotherapy session
  • 12 sessions = $55/Personal Training session, $80/Psychotherapy session

Clients can combine any number of Personal Training sessions with psychotherapy sessions, as long as they equal the total package amount (e.g. 8 PT plus 4 Psychotherapy sessions equals one 12 session package).

Emotional Eating

Did you know that up to 75% of overeating is due to emotional eating? Learn how to recognize and overcome your eating triggers so you can finally break out of the emotional eating cycle.
