In April 2009, John Mayotte was named General Manager of Merritt Athletic Clubs Bare Hills, where he oversees both the fitness and tennis departments. Mayotte...if the name sounds familiar, it's because John comes from a tennis family at the forefront of the sport for decades.

When John took the job as General Manager of Merritt Athletic Clubs Bare Hills, he hit the ground running. Immediately, he made staff and program changes, luring Greensprings' top tennis pro and his program to Bare Hills. After more than 30 years at Green Spring Racquet Club, Lenny Scheuermann moved his Tennis Institute to Bare Hills.

Named Baltimore's Best Teaching Professional by Baltimore Magazine, Lenny Sheuermann brings his goal-setting "you can do it" methods to 9 one-week summer tennis camps for kids beginning Monday, June 8. He offers both half and full day tennis sessions, with the option of continued cross training at nearby Gerstung International Sports Education, Inc. Lenny's year-round Tennis Institute continues into the fall and winter with classes and workshops for everyone from children to adults, beginners to advanced players.

In addition, Lenny and his staff of teaching pros - Thiha Htwar, Keith Puryear, Matt Lennox, Kristin Messmer, Jason Goldman-Petri, and Deepak Lall - offer private lessons to children and adults of all levels of play.

Merritt Bare Hills Sports Performance Training (SPT)
Sports Performance Training is designed to improve speed, power, agility, and athletic performance. A progressive system establishes fundamental skills and then moves to more technical skills to continue improvement. The program is designed so that the skills learned can be transfered to any sport. Movement drills with ladders, hurdles, weights, and more improve balance, agility, and speed.

Certified and degreed coaches with experience in the field lead the group from start to finish to ensure proper form and technique in the movement and strength training portions. Small group training allows for quality reps and attention from the coach while keeping the price down. Classes are for ages 18 and older. Member pricing $120 per month for unlimited classes.

CrossFit at Merritt Bare Hills
CrossFit - high intensity functional training. This is a core strength and conditioning program developed to optimize cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.

CrossFit is designed for any committed individual, regardless of experience and current fitness level. A new workout is experienced every day and can be scaled to specific fitness levels of participants. We train everyone from beginners to serious athletes. Classes held in small groups and are always challenging and fun. Member pricing: $200 per month for unlimited sessions, $160 per month for twice a week (8 sessions per month).

Endurance and Cardio Training for Young Athletes
Open to middle school and high school athletes. The goal of this program is to increase cardiovascular fitness and endurance in young athletes. Improve 40 yard dash time, increase agility, quickness and speed. A moderate strength training program will also be included. All participants must enroll for the entire length of the program.

High Intensity Small Group Circuit Training
A super fast, extremely efficient metabolic boost to your workout! Combining full body resistance training and high intensity cardio blasts, this 30 minute workout will make sure you're burning a maximal amount of calories!

Merritt Swim Academy The Swim Academy has a new session beginning every six weeks. Ages 6 months-12 years old. Swim Academy allows children to progress through a four-level program, as well as Mommy and Me. Each level helps children improve their swimming ability. Click here for registration form. Merritt Marlin Masters Swim Team Focus is on fitness and health for adults in a group workout environment. Practices work on improving stroke form and endurance of swimmers. Click here for registration form.

Pre-Swim Team Not ready for swim team yet? Can't commit to more than one day a week? Looking to get ready for the summer swim season? Try our Pre-Team groups! Sessions focus on the stroke form of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Flip turns and starts are also taught during training. Click here for registration form.

Merritt Athletic Swimming/Year Round Swim Team Practice available 6 days a week. Merritt Athletic Swimming is a year round swim team that has grown to two practice locations - Towson and Eldersburg. The locations combine with over 100 swimmers ages 5-18. This is a competitive swim team program that is year round and offers five competitive levels in which to compete. Practices work on improving stroke form, endurance, and speed of swimmers. Practice times vary according to level. Download brochure and registration form.
