Racquetball: The best indoor sport in the world

Racquetball is a sport that can be played by 2, 3 or 4 people. The equipment needed is simple: court shoes designed for indoor use, eye guards, glove, ball and racquet. Games are played to 15 points win by 1. They can be played fast, with power and athleticism, or slow, with control and finesse. It all depends on your personal disposition.

Here are a few common misconceptions about getting into racquetball:

You need to be young to become good.
No way! People have started from their 30’s to 50’s and become excellent players.

It’s hard to learn and confusing.
It’s actually very easy to start and you can learn the rules as your game progresses. You don’t need to be an expert to enjoy the game.

You have to be very fit to play.
Again you can start at any point. No matter where you are in your fitness plan, at the very start or partway thru, racquetball can help you achieve your goals quicker and make it more fun (not many people can say that about a treadmill!).

I need to already know someone who can play with me.
There are many players of all levels in the club who are always looking for new people to play with. They are friendly and more often than not willing to give you pointers on your game. Also the club runs leagues throughout the year with many different skill divisions so you can meet many new people just like you.

The bottom line is that all you need to start is a sense of adventure, a desire to have fun and meet new people. A free introduction to racquetball class is available to all club members. Private lessons from Ampro certified instructors are also available. For more information contact Ben Wong at bwong@racquetball101.com or call 410-371-9113. See you on the courts!
