Welcome to Merritt's Racquetball page! As part of your membership with Merritt Athletic Clubs, you are entitled to use the racquetball courts. If you are new to racquetball, here are a couple of quick facts about what racquetball is and is not.
Racquetball is:
- Fun!
- Easy to learn
- A great cross training sport for the winter months (although we think you should play year-round).
- A great way to meet new people
Racquetball is not:
- Just for the young. People have started playing in their 40s.
- Expensive. Compared to most other sports it is cheap (you can buy starter sets for under $50 at some retailers)
- Just for athletes. You can start at any physical level and improve as you learn and play.
For those who've joined Merritt Athletic Clubs specifically to improve their physical condition (weight loss, conditioning, etc) racquetball is much like interval training and can provide more aerobic benefit than a sustained activity such as running a marathon. As an overall workout, you can burn over 600 calories per hour and will use all of the major muscle groups.
Once you've started playing and enjoying the game, it is natural to want to test your abilities against different opponents. For that we have leagues. Leagues are offered year-round and at various skill levels, so you can be sure to find a game to match your current ability.
If you're ready, the best way to start is to take advantage of our free 30 minute intro class. Or, if you are looking to improve your game, one of our AMPRO Certified Instructors will be happy to help you. Just leave a note at the front desk or contact Ben Wong at bwong@merrittclubs.com or 410-371-9113. See you on the courts!
